Lake Road and Hillcrest each won one and lost one in an Obion County middle school jayvee basketball twinbill Thursday night. The LR girls triumphed 44-27 in the opener, while H’crest returned the favor with a 55-33 triumph in the boys’ game. In other results from Thursday night, South Fulton swept Fulton City, Union City split with Lake County, Ridgemont did the same vs. Paris Inman and Black Oak lost twice to Fulton County. The following is a recap of those games reported to The Messenger. LR 44, Hillcrest 27 (G) Rachel Dunn’s 3-pointer put the Lady Generals up 28-25 at the end of three quarters and Lake Road then outscored Hillcrest 18-2 in the final frame to pull away. LR outscored H’crest 31-4 in all in the second half. Bryleigh Jennings led Lake Road (10-4) with 16 points, while Jenna Smith finished with eight points, four rebounds and three steals. Taylor Heathcock and Lindsey Craddock added six markers each to the winning cause as the Lady Generals completed a season sweep of the series between the two teams. Macey Cox topped Hillcrest (8-4) with 10 points and a dozen caroms, while Courtney Heuck had eight points. McClain Bell came up with eight steals for the Lady Cougars, who led 23-13 at the half. Lake Road will celebrate 8th Grade Night Monday against Fulton City. Hillcrest 55, LR 33 (B) The Cougars made 11 3-pointers to improve to 7-5 overall and 5-3 vs. Obion County School System foes. Rhett Thomas Fussell bottomed four of those triples and finished with a game-high 16 points. Hunter Brown had 13 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Tyler Walton had eight markers and dished out four assists. Greg Nance and Brycen Rainey both added six points to the winning cause. Hillcrest led 30-17 at the half. Lake Road, despite being denied its first victory, turned in one of its better performances of the season. Collin Terry scored 12 points, Mason Davidson had seven and five rebounds, and Blake Huggins had 11 rebounds to go along with six points. Will Jones tallied five markers. SF 30, Fulton City 22 (G) The Red Devilettes pitched a shutout in the third quarter to grab a 12-point lead. Fulton led 10-8 after one quarter, but then South Fulton came back for a 16-14 halftime advantage. The Devilettes then led 26-14 at the end of three periods. Emma Glisson paced SF with 10 points, Diamond Smith had eight points, five steals and three assists, and Madison Brown had six points and nine rebounds. South Fulton will celebrate 8th Grade Night Monday against Martin, the junior varsity girls’ game beginning at 5. SF 57, Fulton City 21 (B) The Red Devils jumped all over their Twin Cities rival from the get-go, leading 15-2 after one and 27-9 at the half. Branden Walker posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Demarco Walker finished with 14 points and seven boards. Jyriq Jones had nine points, five assists and four steals with teammate Kody Davidson finishing with nearly an exact stat line — nine points, six assists and four steals. UC 47, Lake Co. 30 (B) The Tornadoes were impressive in picking up a convincing win over a highly-touted LC bunch. UC outscored the host team 27-13 in the second half to pull away after leading just 20-17 at the intermission. Jeremy Bumpus had a huge game for the victors with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Quentrail Polk put up 17 points. Union City is now 12-2 overall and 7-1 in West Tennessee Athletic Conference play heading into next Thursday’s game at Dyersburg. Lake Co. 28, UC 26 (G) The Lady Falcons converted a late offensive rebound into a stickback bucket for the game-winning points. A 3-pointer by Chante DeBerry with under a minute left allowed Union City to tie the game. Tykesha Vaughn had 10 points and Alivia Bishop eight for UC, which fell to 8-8 overall. R’mont 39, Inman 35 (B) Jay Lee Hobbs led the Mustangs with a standout effort. Hobbs had a team-high 12 points to go along with nine steals and seven rebounds in the victory. Dalton Bridgewater helped out in the scoring department with nine markers, while Bruce Ragsdale pitched in with six. Inman 36, R’mont 19 (G) After battling back from a two-point first quarter to knot the contest at 12-all at halftime, the Lady Mustangs came up short after being outscored 18-4 in the final frame. Carly Bramlett had seven points and Kari O’Steen six for R’mont. Fulton Co. 32, BO 22 (G) BO led 6-2 at the end of one period and was down just 10-9 at the intermission before being outscored 22-13 over the final two frames. Nellina Wooten led the Lady Eagles with 14 points. Fulton Co. 45, BO 28 (B) The Eagles fell behind 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 23-11 at the half.
