Lady Chargers among elite with No. 4 rank Posted: Wednesday, January 9, 2013 12:00 pm For Westview to end up on top of the Class AA pile, the Lady Chargers won’t have to travel very far. The first prep basketball polls of the season were released by the Associated Press on Monday afternoon, and the Charger girls (16-2) are on the high end side with a No. 4 ranking. Westview had 97 poll points, one behind third-ranked Livingston Academy and three ahead of McMinn Central. Cannon County is first, followed by Grainger. The Charger boys (15-4), meanwhile, are just on the outside looking in on the Top 10, with 27 points, good enough for 14th overall. Westview’s two teams are joined by the Greenfield boys as the only Weakley County teams to receive votes in the season’s first poll. The Yellowjackets (10-3) picked up 31 points to check in at No. 11 in the boys’ single-A poll. A pair of Westview’s District 13AA rivals are also ranked among the 100 best in the girls’ 2A division as Covington is tied with Elizabethton at No. 7, while Obion Central is locked in a three-way tie with Christ Presbyterian Academy and Creek Wood at No. 1. CPA defeated the Lady Rebels in last season’s state championship game. Knoxville Fulton is the other team listed in the AA girls’ poll, sitting at No. 6. Published in The WCP 1.8.13 |
