Union City police are investigating a break-in which resulted in the theft of cigarettes from a North Clover Street convenience store.
The incident occurred late Monday night at Sudden Service Store at 1005 North Clover St.
Police responded at 10:41 p.m. to a glass breakage alarm at the store and officers arrived to discover the left front door had been broken out by a large cinder block, according to a Union City Police Department report.
After further investigation and review of security video, police determined a black male entered the store, jumped the counter and took an undetermined amount of Newport brand cigarettes from behind the counter. He jumped back over the counter and ran from the store after stopping to pick up some items he had dropped.
The intruder also apparently dropped several packs of cigarettes as he ran around the building, police reported.
