Small tremor, 2.6 magnitude, recorded in area
Did you feel the earthquake?
Residents in some parts of Obion County were asking that question Monday afternoon after a small tremor was recorded in neighboring Lake County.
The 2.6 magnitude tremor was recorded at 12:29 p.m. at a depth of 6.3 kilometers and was centered four miles southeast of Ridgely, according to the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) at the University of Memphis.
It was the third consecutive day small quakes were recorded in the area. A tremor which registered 1.5 in magnitude was recorded at 10:54 p.m. Sunday and was centered six miles north of Tiptonville. It was preceded by a pair of 1.5-magnitude tremors both recorded Saturday — one at 8:50 a.m. centered six miles south-southwest of New Madrid, Mo., and a second at 10:09 p.m. centered two miles north-northeast of Ridgely, according to CERI’s website (www.ceri.memphis.edu).
