Palmersville Baptist Church news Posted: Thursday, January 3, 2013 6:00 pm On Dec. 19, we opened singing, “Silent Night.” Bro. Kieth led us in prayer. We were then dismissed to go caroling in the neighborhood. We returned for hot chocolate and snacks. On Dec. 23, our Sunday school lesson was titled, “Jesus Our Immanuel” was from Isaiah 9:6-7 and Matthew 1:18-25. This lesson was about God coming to earth as Jesus, our Savior and Immanuel. These names tell us that He saves us and is with us. We had no birthday’s today. This week, happy birthday to Mark McClure. In the worship hour, we were glad to have our visitors. Our songs of praise were, “We Three Kings,” “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and “Away in a Manger,” Robert Baker read Luke 2:1-7 while Grace Laws lit the advent candles. Our choir sang, “Christ Is Born Medley.” Bro. Kieth’s text was from Luke 2:6-20, 25-33. He talked about Jesus’ birth. They didn’t have any room for Him then and people still don’t today. Do you have room for Him in your life? In the evening, we sang a lot of Christmas carols. Bro. Kieth’s message was from Matthew 2:1-18 and Luke 2:37-49. For the coming new year, we can each tell H Him that we want to be what He wants us to be and not what “I” want to be. During the invitation time, we darkened some lights as Jackie Laws played, “O Holy Night.” We’ve had two good services today. On Dec. 26, we had no services. We hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. On Dec. 30. our Sunday school lesson was, “Jesus Our Shepherd” from John 10:7-18. Today’s lesson talked about the fact that Jesus doesn’t just save us; He is the Good Shepherd who walks closely with us everyday. He never leaves us no matter what. We had no birthday’s today. Next week, happy birthday to Hugh Brann, Summer Sprouse and Pete Staples. Following congregational singing, Bro. Kieth’s text was from 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 27-31. He talked about our gifts in the spirit. He left us with this thought, “What have I done for the Kingdom this year? Tell Him what you hope to accomplish for Him in 2013. That evening, we sang, “Just a Little Talk With Jesus,” “Living By Faith,” “Lord I’m Coming Home” and “Mansion Over the Hilltop.” Robert and Julie Baker sang, “Prayer Changes Me.” Charlene Harris sang, “I’m Free.” Our scripture reading was from Philippians 4:4-9. We had two good services today. Thankful for our visitors. Kerry and I were saddened to learn of the passing of our friend, Ben Braswell. Our sympathies are extended to his family as well as all others that had loved ones to pass away. We hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year. None
