Scams reported Posted: Wednesday, January 2, 2013 4:00 pm The Messenger, January 2, 2013 An area resident has reported receiving a scam phone call recently. The call reportedly originated in the Dominican Republic and the scammer offered free giveaways connected to Social Security, adding that more information had to be collected before the recipient of the call could receive the promised additional benefits. The area resident wisely refused to provide additional information and reported the call to local law enforcement and the Social Security office. Readers are reminded never to provide details to a stranger requesting financial or other such personal information, even if the caller or “visitor” suggests they represent an actual office or organization. |
