Alcohol shuts down in Murray at midnight

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — Anyone in Murray offering a toast to 2013 will have to do it a bit early.
The city declined to extend the time for serving or consuming alcohol past midnight for tonight’s festivities, meaning anyone popping a cork as the year changes over could be held in violation of the law.
Mayor Bill Wells told The Murray Ledger & Times (http://bit.ly/UDYrGo) he was surprised no one requested a 15-minute extension of the cut off time.
The last time the serving or consumption of alcohol was allowed after midnight was New Year’s Eve in 2008 when a now-closed restaurant asked for a brief extension.
Murray’s alcoholic beverage control administrator, Sgt. Kendra Clere, said officers would be monitoring restaurants, but that she didn’t anticipate any problems.
