Martin police make a marijuana arrest
MARTIN – Martin police on Christmas Eve charged Elijah P. Howard, 22, with possession of a Schedule VI narcotic with intent to sale.
On Dec. 24 at 3:11 a.m., Officer Karl Jackson observed a silver Dodge Avenger driving east on Highway 22 near Taylor Automotive, according to an incident report. The officer pulled the vehicle over because he could not see a license plate.
When he approached the car and the window was rolled down, Jackson could smell marijuana, according to the incident report.
The owner of the vehicle, Whitley Stewart, was then asked to step out of the vehicle and explain the ownership of the car, according to the incident report.
The driver, Elijah Howard, was then asked to step out of the car, according to the incident report. Howard said Stewart had recently purchased the car.
“Due to the odor of marijuana, I then asked Elijah Howard about the marijuana smell and he stated they had just left a party in Martin,” Jackson wrote in the incident report. “I then went to Whitley Stewart and she was asked if there was any marijuana in the car and she stated no.”
The officer then told Stewart he thought the marijuana was on her, and at that point she pulled from her bra a bag containing approximately 24 grams of marijuana, according to the incident report.
“Elijah Howard then told me that he gave the marijuana to Whitley Stewart to hold for him during the traffic stop,” Jackson wrote in the report.
When asked if he had any more marijuana, Howard handed over another bag containing approximately 2.2 grams of marijuana, according to the report.
Also seized was $154.01 in U.S. currency. Published in The WCP 12.27.12
