Paducah association seeks artists for event Posted: Wednesday, December 26, 2012 8:00 pm The Lower Town Neighborhood Association of Paducah, Ky., has announced a call to artists for the 2013 Lower Town Arts and Music Festival, May 17-19, 2013. This juried festival is open to all emerging and established artists residing within a 350-mile radius of Paducah. The application deadline is Jan. 31, 2013. Drawing/pastel, painting, fiber, ceramics, wood, glass, sculpture, photography, jewelry and mixed media will be accepted. Works will be chosen on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution, according to Victoria and Michael Terra, Lowertown residents, and co-coordinators for the 2013 festival. All submitted works must be original and completed within the last two years. “The Lower Town Arts & Music Festival is one of the biggest small art shows you’ll ever find,” Victoria Terra said. “Completely run by area artists and a core of volunteers, our goal is to create an outstanding experience for both artists and the public alike. We believe in community involvement and that bigger isn’t necessarily better. Our intention is to weave the festival into the arts district itself to showcase local galleries as well as juried artists. To that end, we ensure that artists selected are of the highest quality and that they receive the best of care.” Applications are available online at https://www.zapplication.org. Artists may download the prospectus (PDF format). Michael Terra said the festival will award $5,000 in nine prizes of excellence and merit. There is a $30 jury fee, and, if accepted, a $175 booth fee. All booths are 10-foot by 10-foot outdoor spaces with electricity.
