Walker Harris, 85, of Hornbeak died at Jackson Regional Hospital Dec. 20, 2012.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at White & Mahon Funeral Home in Troy, with the Rev. Archie Larry officiating. Burial will follow in Graves Chapel Cemetery near Hornbeak.
The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Lawrence, Michael Moore, Harris Pitts, Nick Dial, James Gookin, Clay Mayhall, Joe Lafayette and Josh Johnson.
He was born March 28, 1927, in Obion County, son of the late William Jackson and Evie Jane (Chumney) Harris. He married the former Elsie Marice Thompson May 27, 1950. She died Aug. 27, 1990. He was the owner of the former Hornbeak Harris Auction for more than 40 years and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Jenny Lawrence of Obion, Shirley and Mike Moore of Decherd, Alice Hawks and Jeff Spicer of Obion, Gail and Terry Whitmore and Deloma Pitts, all of Hornbeak; 10 grandchildren, Belinda Tucker, Jennifer Vazquez, Joseph Lawrence, Demanda Whitmore, Michael Moore, Harris Pitts, Tracy Moore, Sarah Spicer, Diana Whitmore and Chelsie Pitts; and eight great-grandchildren, Reymundo Vazquez, Ysidro Vazquez, Attaya Lafayette, Isaiah Lafayette, William Dudley, Corbin Gookin, Molly Pitts and Brayden Mayhall.
He was also preceded in death by his great-grandson, Jameson Gookin; two brothers, Conley “Chunk” Harris and Connie Harris; and his sister, Bonnie Gray.
