Westview earned a sweep and Gleason got a split on Friday — just a week before the Christmas break begins for area high school basketball teams.
The Lady Chargers improved to 10-1 and 6-0 in District 13AA with their 79-57 win over South Gibson, while the Chargers are now 8-3 and 5-1 after they beat South Gibson 90-60.
The Lady Bulldogs moved their record to 8-2 and 6-0 after beating Bruceton 58-23 in a District 13A game, but the Bulldogs fell to 1-9 and 1-5 in the district after dropping their game to Bruceton 74-57.
Dresden had Friday off and will return to action this week with games against Bradford and Clarksburg.

Gleason 58, Bruceton 23
Briana Jones once again led the Lady Bulldogs to another win with her game-high 19 points. The win kept the Lady Bulldogs undefeated in the district.
It was not all Jones and her offense in the win. The Lady Bulldogs forced Bruceton into turning the ball over 21 times with Courtney Taylor getting three steals. Taylor also was second in scoring for Gleason with 11 points.
Gleason also got 18 assists in the game with Caley Smith dishing the ball off for eight assists. Emily Bell scored 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs, and Jaclyn Montgomery added eight.
The Lady Bulldogs only have one game this week, which will be tonight at Huntingdon.
Gleason will return to action next in the Lions Club Tournament when it faces Dyer County at 4 p.m. Thursday.
BOYS
Westview 90, So. Gib. 60
The Chargers easily took care of the Hornets on Friday and now hope to keep their momentum going this week before they take a short break for Christmas.
Westview will be playing a district game at Gibson County and then two non-district games at home against Greenfield on Thursday and Union City on Friday.
Westview will get a challenge from the cross county-line rivals and try to complete a season sweep when the Chargers face the Golden Tornadoes. The Chargers beat the Twisters 71-66 back on Nov. 20 at Union City.
Westview will take a short break after the Union City game and then play JCM on Dec. 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Lions Club Christmas Tournament.
Bruceton 74, Gleason 57
The Bulldogs had four players to score in double figures, but they came up short against the Tigers after a slow start in the first period.
The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 22-5 in the opening frame and 47-18 in the first half before the Bulldogs got their offense in gear in the second half.
Gleason outscored Bruceton 39-27 in the final half of the game, but that was too little too late to overcome the first half deficit.
Austin Perry led Gleason with 13 points followed by Thomas Travis with 12.
Chris Summer and Jake Horn each scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will try to get back into the win column tonight at Huntingdon and then go on their Christmas break.
The Bulldogs will return action on Jan. 3 when they travel to Bradford. Published in The WCP 12.18.12
