A Union City police officer’s duty gear and shotgun were stolen from his personal vehicle during a weekend auto burglary.
The incident occurred late Friday or early Saturday while officer Ben Burnett’s Jeep was parked on High Street in Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The vehicle was locked and police said it appeared the perpetrator entered the vehicle by lifting its vinyl top, reaching in and unlocking the door. The officer’s police duty gear was in the floorboard, partially hidden under the seat, and the shotgun was in a camouflage case in the back.
The duty gear included a Glock handgun, a taser and a duty belt with handcuffs, an asp and a holster, in addition to the shotgun, according to the report.
The vehicle’s vinyl top was broken during the break-in, police reported.
