Scam reported

A Troy resident has reported receiving a phone call from someone who sounded as though they had a foreign accent and who spoke over quite a bit of background noise. The caller said they needed to issue the resident a new Social Security card and asked her to verify personal banking information. The resident suspected a scam and hung up without revealing any private financial information.
Area law enforcement encourage all local residents to follow this pattern and never to give out personal information to someone they do not know, particularly over the phone or Internet or to a stranger who comes to their home.
