Flu halts local slate of hoops

Call it a flu-out. And, it’s county-wide.
The Obion County middle school and high school basketball schedules have been wiped out by a flu outbreak throughout West Tennessee.
Locally, the Obion County School System has dismissed classes at all its schools for today and Monday. The postponements also affect all high school and junior high basketball games.
Union City, meanwhile, is in school today but tonight’s prep hoops doubleheader with Halls has been postponed due to the flu outbreat at Halls. That pair of games will be played on Dec. 20.
It marks the second rescheduled twinbill for the Golden Tornadoes, who will host Dresden on Jan. 3, that set of games moved back from their original November date because the Lions’ football team was competing in the state playoffs.
There was a full junior high slate wiped off the books from Obion County last night with Lake Road hosting Martin, Ridgemont entertaining Black Oak and Hillcrest bringing in Fulton City. Union City was in action, playing at Lake County.
Tonight’s local schedule had Obion Central at home against Ripley in Distict 13AA play and South Fulton hosting Greenfield in a 14A twinbill in addition to UC’s home date with Halls.
All games, as league games, must be made up. Only the UC-Halls games have been re-scheduled.
Monday’s middle school hoop schedule was also full with Hillcrest visiting Lake Road, Ridgemont traveling to Lake County and South Fulton heading to Black Oak.
There was no word at press time on make-up dates for any of the local junior high games.
Also Monday night, Union City is scheduled to visit Northview.
