Money reported stolen

Cash was taken during a theft Tuesday evening at a Mexican grocery store on East Main Street in Union City.
Police responded shortly after 6 p.m. to La Michoacana at 1207 East Main St., where an employee briefly went to the back of the store and returned to discover the theft, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The employee told police no one was in the store and she went to the back to the restroom. When she came back to the counter, she realized someone had come into the store and gone behind the counter to a filing cabinet. The intruder allegedly pried the cabinet open and stole an unknown amount of cash.
The employee did not know the amount stolen and did not know who entered the store, according to the report.
