Joan Atkins Posted: Thursday, December 6, 2012 9:26 pm The Messenger, December 6, 2012 Joan Wilson-Atkins, formerly of Troy, passed away peacefully with family by her side Dec. 5, 2012. She was a resident of Homer, La., at Lake Claiborne since 1973. Memorial services will be Saturday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Homer at Lake Claiborne. The family requests that memorials be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 3647 Hwy. 146, Homer, LA 71040; or Agape Hospice in Minden, 203 Pearl St., Minden, LA 71055. Joan (pronounced JoAnn) was born Joan Wilson Feb. 10, 1939, in Obion County, and was 73 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Viola Mae (Hudgins) Wilson; and her brother George Carroll Wilson. Joan was a faithful Christian. She had a special kindness in her eyes and a wonderful laugh which will never be forgotten by those she loved. Her loving spirit was felt by all friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Emmett R. Atkins; three daughters, Regina Atkins-Graham of Savannah, Ga.; Deborah Atkins-Brown of Woodstock, Ga.; and Becky Atkins-Strickler of Ruston, La.; her sister, Glenda (Wilson) Jones of Cedar Grove; her half sister, Lillian Dean; her half-brother, Marvin Wilson of Union City; nine grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and a multitude of cousins in Louisiana and Tennessee. |
