Obion County trio
in all-star grid game

Obion County will be represented by three players on the North team for the upcoming West Tennessee all-star football game, slated for 3 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Tech High School in Jackson.
Khiry Lewis and Keylon Hyde from Union City and J.P. Fowler from South Fulton have been selected for the squad.
Lewis led Union City 806 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing, averaging 10.7 yards-per-carry, while Hyde finished an injury-plagued senior season with 756 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing.
Lewis also caught eight passes for 145 yards and scored 98 points. Defensively, he had three interceptions and two pass break-ups.
Fowler, meanwhile, was SF’s go-to player with 801 yards and eight TDs rushing to go along with 17 catches for 214 yards and three scores, leading the team in both categories. He also topped the Red Devils with 91 points and three interceptions and was second with 68 tackles.

UTM’s Newsome
picks up OVC honor

Jasmine Newsome, a junior guard on the UT Martin women’s basketball team, was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her effort this past week against Evansville, Central Ark-ansas and Missouri.
Newsome led the Sky-hawks in scoring against Central Arkansas and Missouri with 25 and 24 points, respectively.
She shot 53.1 percent from the floor over the three games.
For the week she averaged 22.3 points, 6.2 assists and 4.0 steals.
Newsome has won the league’s Player of the Week honors three out of four weeks this season.
