Sharon girls, Lions poised for tourney run Posted: Wednesday, December 5, 2012 12:00 pm The county junior high basketball season is winding down, with the county tournament set to begin on Saturday at Sharon Middle School. The Sharon girls showed on Thursday night just how tough they can be on their home court by defeating Dresden 36-28. Greenfield’s girls squeaked by Gleason 35-29, and the Martin girls got an 11-point win against Paris Inman 35-24. Dresden’s boys saw very little challenge from Sharon, winning easily 53-16. The Greenfield boys had a pretty easy time with Gleason by winning 41-11. GIRLS Sharon 36, Dresden 28 Page Simpson led the Lady Eagles to a big victory over the visiting Lady Lions on Thursday by scoring a game-high 21 points. The win improves Sharon to 5-4 on the season. The loss was Dresden’s second of the season as the Lady Lions fall to 9-2. The Lady Eagles never trailed in the game and led 11-6 at the end of the first period, 21-13 at the half and 30-19 at the end of three periods. Lexiey Mealer scored eight for Sharon, and Makelle Milligan chipped in seven. Kasey Gallimore led the Lady Lions in scoring with 13. Alex Stedd was second with 10 and Grace Finch rounded out the scoring with five. G’field 35, Gleason 28 The Lady Yellowjackets shot 52 percent from the floor and found their way to beating the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday. Greenfield hit 13-of-25 shots and made 3-of-8 3-pointers. Cadie McAlister led the Lady ’Jackets with 12 points. Kyndal Wiley scored eight, followed by Kinlee Moore with six. Chloe Moore chipped in five and Bentley Gordon scored four. Mahlese McDonald led all scorers with 14 for Gleason. Lillian Nichols added six, Kelsey Borneman scored five and Jayden Green had four points for Gleason. Martin 35, Inman 24 Seven Lady Panthers scored in their win over Inman on Thursday with Jordyn Greene scoring a game-high nine points. Martin led 9-4 after the first period, 16-8 at the break and 26-18 after three periods of play. Tasia Jones, Lydia Pritch-ett and Heidi Craddock each scored six for the Lady Panthers. Charlyce Davis and Abi Reese scored three points each and Chesney Rose scored two points. BOYS Dresden 53, Sharon 16 Ten Dresden players scored as the Lions dominated the Eagles from start to finish on Thursday. The Lions jumped out to a 22-5 first period lead and held the Eagles to just one point in the second period. Dresden led 44-6 at the half. Dresden was led by Jordan Mitchell’s 10 points. Kyle Hutcherson and Dresser Winn each scored seven. Blasé Cashion added six followed by Dylan Yates and Tyrane Jones with four points each. Paul Richmond led Sharon with nine points. Ethan Sweat scored four followed by James Vaughan with three. G’field 41, Gleason 11 Jackson Crouse scored a game-high 16 points as the Yellowjackets easily took care of the Bulldogs on Thursday. Crouse was perfect from 3-point range, going 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Jacob Lewis scored eight points for the ‘Jackets followed by Will Northcutt with five. Tyler Lowery led the Bulldogs with four points. Tucker Green scored three. Chandler Brawner and Seth Bowers each scored two for Gleason.
