BLAST OFF! — Students in Megan Sample’s sixth-grade science class at Carr Elementary School in Fulton recently participated in an inquiry-based rocket-building project. Guided by the expertise of Torie Earle, 4-H Science and Technology, Carr students worked in pairs to design and build rockets using only two-liter bottles, duct tape and card stock. Asking only questions to redirect students during the design phase of the project, Earle challenged the students to solve the rocket design challenge independently. The rockets, charged by water and air pressure, were then launched on the school’s front lawn. Among those who participated in the experiment were (from left) Earle, Ms. Sample and students Dezirae Hancock and Jamila Hagler. Published in The WCP 12.4.12
