A Lauderdale County man was cited into court on a charge of use of counterfeit mark or logo in connection with the sale of merchandise at a flea market in Union City.
Eddie Bishop, 74, of 673 Sumrow St., Halls, was issued a criminal summons Nov. 9 at the Giant Flea Market off West Reelfoot Avenue in Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report released today.
The charge was levied after a police investigator did a walk-through at the flea market and allegedly observed multiple counterfeit hats on display for sale at a booth rented by Bishop. The items included Major League Baseball, NFL, college sports team and various commercial logos.
The investigator reported he identified the caps as unlicensed products due to no trademarks and the quality of the logo construction. He alleged Bishop had no license agreement with any sports team to sell the items.
The items included 593 baseball-style caps, 30 necklaces, 17 belts and 30 knit caps, with the value of the actual alleged theft being over $15,000, according to the report.
