Charges were filed against a Troy man following a hit-and-run traffic accident Saturday evening in the 800 block of West Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
Weylin Patrick Green, 24, of 811 Church St., Troy, was arrested at 6:52 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Officers had responded shortly after 6 p.m. to the hit-and-run crash and were able to obtain a vehicle description and tag number from the victim. Police located the alleged offender, identified as Green, at McDonald’s restaurant on Marshall Avenue for investigation of another incident.
Police said Green began shaking and stuttering while officers were talking with him and appeared “to have an extremely hard time trying to communicate” with officers, according to the report. Police also reported Green appeared to be having trouble following basic instructions and appeared nervous, and Green gave police permission to search the vehicle believed to have been involved in the hit-and-run wreck.
During the search, police found 10 Xanax pills hidden in a cigarette pack and Green allegedly told officers he did not have a prescription. When asked about anything in his system, he allegedly told police he had taken Xanax and had smoked marijuana before driving his vehicle.
Green told police he had driven his vehicle from his home in Troy to Union City to shop and then had driven to the restaurant for food, according to the report. Based on the crash investigation and the victim’s description, tag information and damage to both vehicles, police charged Green with the DUI and leaving the scene offenses.
