at Wynridge course

He used an 8-iron to ace the 110-yard hole.
Witnessing were Pete Caldwell, Gerald Freeman, James Nicks and Terry Colbert.

Shots don’t fall
in ugly Vols’ loss

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s a tough night when the basketball team can’t outscore the football team.
The gridiron Tennessee Volunteers averaged 36.2 points this season. The hoops version lost 37-36 to No. 20 Georgetown on Friday night, an offensive display of offensive basketball that made the SEC/Big East Challenge look more like the games they used to play with peach baskets.
It was Tennessee’s second-lowest scoring total since the shot clock went into effect in the 1985-86 season, better only than in a 43-35 loss to Auburn in 1997.

UK’s Rupp run ends
in setback to Baylor

Baylor’s comfort with the zone defense on Saturday created uneasiness for No. 8 Kentucky.
It left the Wildcats with a 64-55 loss to the Bears, a two-game losing streak and the end of their 54-game run at Rupp Arena.
Not to mention a lot of soul searching.
Kentucky’s struggles with Baylor’s combination of zone alignments were symbolized by its failure to get the ball inside to its big men and a failure to answer it from the outside.
The Wildcats (4-3) just shot 30 percent, their lowest under coach John Calipari. That was 10 percent worse than in Thursday’s 64-50 loss at Notre Dame.

Simmons leads rout
for rolling Lady Vols

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Meighan Simmons scored a career-high 33 points and exceeded the 1,000-point mark for her career Sunday as No. 16 Tennessee trounced No. 22 North Carolina 102-57 for its sixth consecutive victory.
Simmons shot 12-of-22, including 9-of-11 in the first half.
She scored her 1,000th career point by sinking a pair of free throws with 11:44 left in the first half.
Isabelle Harrison added a career-high 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds for the Lady Vols (6-1), who now have two weeks off before returning to action Dec. 16 at No. 13 Texas.
Cierra Burdick scored 15 points, Bashaara Graves had 11 points and Taber Spani added 10 points.
