South Fulton served notice on District 14A and the other side of Region 7A in a pair of weekend sweeps. The SF girls knocked off 14A rival Trenton 54-15 on Friday night and then defeated 13A’s Gleason 56-45 on Saturday. The Red Devils were also winners both days with a 69-59 decision over Trenton and a 72-56 verdict over Gleason. Obion Central, meanwhile, was on both ends of the broom, winning twice in girls’ play and losing its two weekend boys’ games. The Lady Rebels took a 59-35 decision over Haywood on Friday and then topped Lexington 43-34 in the Coaches vs. Cancer game Saturday at home. OC’s boys lost 72-63 to Haywood and then 51-36 to Lexington The following is a wrap-up of the weekend games. SF 69, Trenton 59 (B) South Fulton outscored Peabody 24-19 in the final quarter to halt a comeback bid in action at Trenton on Friday. The Red Devils led 12-7 after one quarter and 35-22 at the half, but Trenton battled back to within 45-40 by the end of the third period. Harrison Hawks topped the Redmen with 28 points, Clint Wells added 12 points, and Tevaris James had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for SF. Keshawn McManus added 10 rebounds to go with seven points, and T.J. Ingram had eight assists for the Devils. SF 72, Gleason 56 (B) Hawks had 17 points, and McManus added 12 points and nine rebounds for South Fulton in play Saturday afternoon. SF led 25-6 after one period and held a 44-22 halftime advantage. The lead was 60-31 at the end of three quarters. Wells added nine points, and Ingram dished out six assists to aid the Red Devil effort. SF head coach Wes Miller announced that JaQuay Garmon decided to quit the Red Devil boys’ team, noting personal reasons for his decision. SF 54, Trenton 15 (G) The Red Devilettes were in control from the opening tip, outscoring Trenton 24-5 in the first period and holding a 39-67 halftime advantage. Taleeah Cross and Laken Haley each scored 16 points to pace South Fulton. Cross also had seven rebounds, six steals and five assists. SF 56, Gleason 45 (G) The Red Devilettes used three-point shooting to break away in the second half after the teams had been tied at the end of each of the first two quarters in Saturday afternoon’s game. The squads were knotted at 11 after one frame and at 24 at the half. Taylor Rodgers knocked down a pair of treys late in the second quarter for South Fulton. Haley then hit three times from beyond the three-point stripe in the third quarter as SF opened a 41-33 lead. Haley finished with 19 points, while Cross topped the Devilettes with 20 points. Cross also posted seven steals, five rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Ka-lon Martin had 10 rebounds for South Fulton. OC 59, Haywood 35 (G) Brandi Goodman had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead Central to a big District 13AA road win on Friday. Rachel Jones added eight points, and Paige Hicks dished out six assists for the Lady Rebels, who led 27-14 at the half. OC 43, Lexington 34 (G) Obion Central trailed 19-9 after one quarter but then limited the Lady Tigers to just 15 points over the final three periods to take the win. Goodman scored 11 points, and Ali McEwen added 10 points for the Lady Rebels. Haywood 72, OC 63 (B) Shaw Logan had 25 points and Bryan Morris added 14 as the Rebels suffered the District 13AA road loss on Friday. Haywood led 19-14 after one period and expanded that to 39-28 at the half. The Tomcats then carried a 55-41 advantage after three frames. Lexington 51, OC 36 (B) The Rebels scored only two points in the fourth quarter as Lexington pulled away in Saturday’s game. OC trailed 13-10 after one period and 21-12 at the half but closed the gap to within 37-34 by the end of the third frame.
