A Union City woman was charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer who responded to a domestic dispute call at her home.
Brittni Marie Ray, 22, of 731 South Sunswept Drive, Apt. B-6, Union City, was arrested at 6:14 p.m. Thursday on a charge of assault on a police officer, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The incident involved Union City police officer Ben Burnett.
Burnett reported he and officer Josh Lovell had responded just after 6 p.m. to a report of a domestic in progress at Ms. Ray’s apartment. Burnett said he observed a fresh cut above Ms. Ray’s left eyelid and was trying to obtain information from her about how she sustained the cut, reporting that apparently she and her girlfriend had some form of dispute prior to officers’ arrival.
Burnett said he shined his flashlight above Ms. Ray’s left eye to observe the cut and see if it needed stitches. He said when he was observing the cut, Ms. Ray shoved his hand away and then pushed him back, allegedly using both her arms. At that point, he reported Ms. Ray became “very hostile and mad,” telling him to leave her alone.
Burnett said he was able to place Ms. Ray into custody and transport her to the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex.
