Greenfield’s Robinson too hot for Falcons to handle Posted: Friday, November 30, 2012 12:00 pm The District 14A portion of the basketball schedule got under way for Greenfield Tuesday night by splitting a pair of games at Lake County. The Greenfield boys beat Lake County 66-62 in the nightcap with 28 points coming at the free throw line and Tony Robinson scoring a game-high 27 points. In the girls’ game, the Lady Yellowjackets could not get their offense in gear until the final period, while the Lady Falcons did not have a problem scoring in the first half in posting a 47-43 decision. Dresden’s game against Bruceton was postponed until Dec. 20 because more than half of the boys’ team just completed the football season and need some time to get some practice in on the court. The Lions are still scheduled to play at West Carroll on Friday. Gleason will return to action on Friday at Clarksburg after having its week off. Greenfield 66, LC 62 (B) Tony Robinson had the hot hand for the Yellowjackets with a game-high 27 points as Greenfield held on to win its District 14A opener at Lake County. The ’Jackets (3-0; 1-0) got plenty of chances to work on their free throw shooting against the Falcons (0-1, 0-1) with 41 attempts at the line and hit 68 percent of their shots. The ’Jackets found themselves down 18-12 after the first period, but outscored the Falcons 13-8 in the second stanza to make it a one-point game at the half with the Falcons leading 26-25. Robinson went on a tear in the third period scoring 14 of Greenfield’s 22 points. The ’ Jackets defense held the Falcons to 14 points in the third period to take a 47-40 lead going into the final frame. Greenfield scored 13 out of its 19 points in the fourth period at the free throw line with Robinson 9-of-10 on charity shots. Lake County’s Zay Coleman tried to keep the Falcons in the game by scoring 12 of the Falcons 22 points in the fourth period. Hunter Crouse was second in scoring for Greenfield with 13 points followed by Tyler Hoke with eight. Jeremy Lannom added seven points with Miles Cavitt scoring six and Zack Grooms chipping five. Greenfield will be at Bradford on Friday night. LC 47, Greenfield 43 (G) Kalee Kesterson and Britany Peoples both scored in double figures, but their teammates struggled on offense as the Lady ’Jackets fell short of earning a district win. Greenfield (2-1, 0-1) finally got its offense going in the fourth period by scoring 22 points to make a game out of it after being down 34-21 after three periods. Kesterson scored 12 of her 14 points in the final period to lead the Lady ’Jackets in scoring. Greenfield found itself down 14-7 after one and 26-14 at halftime. The Lady Yellowjackets held the Lady Falcons (3-0, 1-0) to eight points in the third period, but could manage to net seven points themselves. LC scored 13 points in the final period, which was just enough to hold off the charging Lady ’Jackets and come out with the win. People scored 12 points for Greenfield followed by Allee Dees with seven. Rachel Roberts and Shaynece Clemmons each scored three points.
