Counterfeit bills found Posted: Friday, November 30, 2012 4:00 pm The Messenger, November 30, 2012 Fulton police are urging the public to be alert with the recent discovery of $20 counterfeit bills at a business there. “Counterfeit bills have made their way back into Fulton at one of our local businesses,” Fulton Police Chief Terry Powell said. According to Powell, real U.S. currency has a number of security features that counterfeiters cannot reproduce, including color-shifting ink, embedded security strips, blue and red flecks in the currency’s grain and watermarks. However, even people with training might not be able to detect these features with the naked eye, he said. Using counterfeit bills is a federal offense.
