William Carpenter Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2012 4:00 pm William Ralph Carpenter, 90 of Newbern, died on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at his residence. Born Thursday, Oct. 12, 1922 in Newbern, he was the son of the late James Edward and Virgie Tempie Williams Carpenter. He was a retired Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Office, United States Army Veteran serving in World War II, a life-long member of Center United Methodist Church and member of the Tennessee Farm Bureau. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Tilly and Rev. Harold Stricker officiating. Internment was in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Randy Carpenter, Scott Carpenter, Brian Evans, Rick Glendowne, Ronnie Weatherly and Steve McLean. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Williams, Bill Hobbs, G. B. Holder, Crannie Webb and Don Hilliard. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mrs. Irene Anderson Carpenter of Newbern; three sons, Jerry Edward (Linda) Carpenter of Martin, William Larry (Pat) Carpenter and Kenneth Anderson (Jeanette) Carpenter & Wife Jeanette, both of Newbern; two brothers, Ronald Carpenter and Glen Carpenter, both of Newbern; six grandchildren, Dana (Brian) Evans of McMinnville, Scott Carpenter of Martin, Karen Carpenter of Gallatin, Randy Carpenter and Beth (Adam) Dieterich, both of Atlanta, Ga. and Casey Carpenter of Newbern; three great-grandchildren, Brett Evans and Brook Evans, both of McMinnville and Sara Dietetich of Atlanta, Ga. Family ask that memorials be directed to the charity of donor’s choice.
