Martin girls, Lady ’Dogs claim wins Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2012 12:00 pm Gleason and Martin were big winners Monday night in middle school girls’ basketball action reported to The Weakley County Press. Gleason knocked off Harrelson 35-13, while Martin topped South Fulton 42-26. Martin was also a winner in the boys’ game, outscoring South Fulton 20-15 in the fourth quarter for a 45-44 win. Meanwhile, Dresden defeated Gleason 50-9 and Trenton 51-21 in recent boys’ action. Gleason 35, Harrelson 13 Lillian Nichols scored a game-high 13 points in the Lady Bulldogs’ win at Harrelson. The Lady Bulldogs forced Harrelson into 22 turnovers, seven coming on steals. Darby Reed led Gleason with two steals. Gleason held the host team to only 16 shot attempts, Harrelson ma-king just six of them. Gleason shot 42 percent from the field and made 13-of-31 shots. Mahlese McDonald scored eight points for the Lady Bulldogs, followed by Kelsey Borneman with five. Jae-Ann Washam and Maycie Rollins scored four each. Savanna Murray rounded out the scoring for Gleason with one point. Martin 42, SF 26 (G) The Lady Panthers built up a big first half lead that was good enough to defeat the Lady Red Devils. Martin jumped out in front with a first period score of 17-9 and held SF to only two points in the second half on Martin’s way to a 28-11 halftime lead. Tasia Jones led the way for the Lady Panthers with 11 points. She shared the game-high total with South Fulton’s Emma Glisson. Heidi Craddock scored 10 for Martin followed by Allie Cantrell, Jordyn Greene and Lydia Pritchett with four each. The Lady Panthers are one game above .500 now with a season record of 5-4. Martin 45, SF 44 (B) The Red Devils lead at the end of each period before Martin rallied in the fourth. SF led 10-4 after one quarter, 20-18 at the half and 29-25 after three. DMS wins twice Brice Williams and Tyrone Jones each had eight points for the Lions against Gleason, while Dresser Winn scored 11 points and Quincey McDonald added 10 for Dresden against the Tide.
