Union City’s Parks and Recreation Department is once again offering its annual “Letter from Santa” program.
Parks Department Director Ken Morris told The Messenger today the letter is designed for children, but a letter can also be sent to a boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, husband, wife or a friend.
“This is something we really enjoy doing every year to brighten up a child’s Christmas,” Morris said.
Last year, about 800 letters were sent out.
Morris said he remembers one year when around 1,100 letters were sent out through the program.
“They go all over the country,” he said.
There is no charge for the letters and each letter is customized by the sender.
Those interested in sending a letter from Santa can go online to www.ucpark.com and scroll down to the “Letter From Santa” icon. From there, the website will guide users through the process of filling out their letter.
All the letters will be sent on special Santa stationery and each letter begins with the appropriate greeting, “Ho! Ho! Ho!!! and Merry Christmas.”
The deadline to fill out the letter from Santa form and have it sent in time for Christmas is noon Dec. 19.
“We’ve been doing this for about 15 years and it’s really one of the most popular programs we do,” Morris said.
