Lael Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Union City had a monthly meeting recently.
Faye Passmore, outreach leader, opened the meeting by asking for those in need of prayer for sickness or for the families of those who are ill. Dorothy Rasberry offered the prayer.
The project for the month is a donation to Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
Louise Petty, the devotional leader, gave the devotional in two parts. The first was written by Daniel Schintz. She noted that when he was a little boy, he preferred to go to Sunday night meeting. The song leader would often ask for a favorite song. He always would raise his hand first, suggesting song number 102: “Master, the Tempest Is Raging. It was about the storm on the Sea of Galilee. When it got to the chorus, Schintz would sing out “like a drowning man.”
The second part of the devotional was called “Peace be Still” and was written by Marilyn King. The author found two prayer practices to be helpful. One is to hold a word of praising in the mind and to repeat it over and over. Another is to offer prayer when beginning a new task and giving the results to God in prayer.
Frances Watts served refreshments of pecan pie, coconut cake, sandwiches, potato chips and drinks.
The next meeting will be Dec. 11, with Arlene Keeling as hostess, at Sassafraz restaurant.
Those present were Edna McIntosh, Ms. Watts, Pat Cunningham, Lena Mai Pruitt, Dot Capps, Ms. Rasberry, Ms. Petty, Ms. Passmore and Joyce Stephens.
