Samuel David “Bullwhip” Griffin, 55, of Newbern, father of Ruby Danielle Griffin of Union City, died Nov. 20, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services were set for 3:30 p.m. today at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, with the Rev. Perry Grills officiating. Pallbearers will be John Tosh, Cody Tosh, Dewayne French, Robert Griffin, Barry Garrison and Bubba Garrison.
He was born July 25, 1957, in Obion County, son of the late Ruby Florence (Garrison) Griffin. He was a former truck driver of Tennessee Freight and John Tosh Farms and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is also survived by two sons and his daughter-in-law, John and Ashley Griffin of Sardis, Miss., and Robert Griffin of Trimble; two other daughters, Jessica Griffin of Trimble and Kathy White of Potts Camp, Miss; two sisters and his brother-in-law, Brenda Wilkerson of Newbern and E. Louise and Steve Anderson of Dyersburg; four grandchildren, Bentley Griffin and Dixie Lynn Griffin, both of Sardis, and Tavlan Alexander and Jalen Alexander, both of Union City; his uncle and aunt, James “Buddy” and Brenda Garrison of Trimble; his nephew, Robert Neal Griffin Jr. of Newbern; and two nieces and their husbands, Reneé and Jeff Epperson of Newbern and Jolle and Aaron DeLaughter of Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Neal Griffin; his niece, Laura Anderson; and his grandmother, Lurine Garrison.
