BOOK SMARTS — Gleason School eighth-graders recently enjoyed studying a literary unit based on the short story “The Storm,” written by McKnight Malmar. As a culminating library activity, students were given the option to either design a cover illustration for the story or write an alternate ending. A winner in each category was selected by a panel of judges from among more than 40 entries. The winners were eighth-graders Virginia Ballew (left) for the alternate ending category and Joseph Tate for the cover illustration category.
