Twisters, LR split
in junior high play

Lake Road and Union City split a middle school basketball twinbill Monday night, the LR girls winning 38-29, and the UC boys running away with a 58-11 triumph.
The Lady Generals (5-1) used an 18-2 second-quarter explosion to build a commanding 25-9 lead after the two teams were tied at 7 after the first period.
Taylor Heathcock had 13 points and eight rebounds for the victors, while Jenna Smith had eight points and eight steals. Both Bryleigh Jennings and Dharma Grinder had seven markers apiece.
For Union City, Chante DeBerry had nine points.
The nightcap was all Tornadoes as UC bolted from the starting blocks with a 21-2 explosion. It was 40-5 at the half.
Michael Warford had 13 points, and Isiah Jones, Kalab Dowell and Quentrail Polk each had seven each for the Purple and Gold.
Lake Road got six points from Ryan Southerland and five rebounds from Blake Huggins.
LR’s plays at Paris Inman next Monday, while Union City is at home to play Three Oaks the same night.

UC teams, Rebels
in Westview event

Union City’s girls will play Friday and Saturday, the UC boys will play Saturday, while Obion Central’s boys will play Friday, in the annual Westview Thanksgiving Classic.
The event features 19 games over two days at two sites — Westview and Martin Middle School.
The Rebels will open play for the locals against USJ at 1:30 p.m. Friday, immediately followed by the Lady Tornadoes against Munford at 3.
On Saturday, Union City’s boys will play Middleton at 3 and the UC girls will take on Middleton at 7:30.

More awards come
for UTM football

UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, while seniors Jason McNair and Quentin Sims have picked up OVC and national awards.
The Robinson award goes to the FCS Coach of the Year.
Simpson guided UTM to an 8-3 overall mark and 6-2 conference record.
Sims and McNair are College Football Performance Awards National Players of the Week, Sims as a receiver and McNair as a return specialist.
Sims has also been named adidas OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness’ top offensive player in the OVC.
Sims caught eight passes for 176 yards, and McNair had a 75-yard return for a touchdown in UTM’s 35-26 win over Tennessee State.

sets propects camp

UT Martin baseball head coach Bubba Cates and assistants Brad Goss, Zac Cole and Craig Rodriquez will host a Winter Prospect Camp Dec. 20 and 21.
The camp, set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 20, is a hitting camp for high school prospects.
The pitching and catching camp for high school prospects is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 21.
The cost for each camp is $75 per person. If a prospect chooses to attend both camps, the cost is $125 if payment is postmarked by Dec. 17. The cost of each camp at the door will be $85 or $150 for both camps.
