Panthers, Greenfield each notch victories

Martin and Greenfield Middle Schools split their games Monday night, Greenfield taking care of Martin in the girls’ game and Martin’s boys returning the favor in the foul-filled nightcap.
The Lady Yellowjackets beat the Lady Panthers 39-27 for the second time this season with two players scoring in double figures.
The boys’ game between the Panthers and Yellowjackets was much closer than the 47-34 score. Both teams were called for multiple fouls during the game with the Panthers getting called for 20 fouls.

Greenfield’s Kyndal Wiley and Kinlee Moore both reached double figures in scoring to lead the Lady ’Jackets (10-1) over the Lady Panthers (3-3) in a closely fought first half before the Greenfield girls pulled away in the third period.
Wiley scored a game-high 14 with Moore right behind at 13. All of Moore’s points came in the first half. Greenfield led at the end of the first half 17-15.
The Lady ’Jackets increased their lead to 10 by the end of the third period thanks to Wiley scoring six points along with Cadie McAlister and Bentley Gordon scoring four each in the period.
The Lady Panthers had seven players score, but no one get over the double-figure mark. With plenty of attempts at scoring, it was a night where the ball would not fall for the Lady Panthers.
Lydia Pritchett and Jordyn Greene each scored six to lead Martin. Heidi Craddock scored five and Chesney Ross scored four for Martin. McAlister scored six and Gordon scored four for Greenfield. Chloe Moore also added two for the Lady ‘Jackets.

The Panthers (6-3) had trouble all night long against the Yellowjackets (2-9), who just would not go away. But the Panthers did everything they could to help the ’Jackets because of foul trouble.
Martin committed five fouls in the first period that led to three points for the Yellowjackets and kept them in the game during the first period. Martin led by only three,11-8, at the end of the first period.
The ’Jackets kept hanging around in the second period thanks to a 3-pointer by Peyton Cooper and Jacob Lewis. Martin made it a seven-point game on a basket by Ryan Sams and Cameron Jones to end the first half with Martin leading 23-16.
Greenfield made it a 23-21 game early in the third period on a deuce by Will Northcutt and another triple by Lewis. But then the ’Jackets got into making fouls with four consecutive ones that allowed the Panthers to widen the gap and end the third period up by the score of 36-23.
Both teams got sloppy in the final frame with Martin committing nine fouls and Greenfield committing six.
Ty Kelly led Martin with 13 points followed by Jones with 12 and Sams with 10. Matt McMillan added seven, Riley Holloman three and Tyler Hopper two.
Lewis led Greenfield with 12, Levi Dees had 11, Northcutt and Cooper scored four each and Keaton Cook added three. Published in The WCP 11.15.12
