| LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Lottery is off to a strong start in its new fiscal year, thanks to a pair of large Powerball jackpots. The Courier-Journal reports that first-quarter sales, through Sept. 30, were up 10.3 percent over the same period a year ago. Lottery officials say overall statewide ticket sales totaled $185.7 million, a $19.1 million gain over the same quarter a year ago. The first-quarter lottery sales were boosted by large Powerball jackpot runs that ended with payoffs of $337 million and $202 million. Powerball sales were up $6.1 million for the quarter, or 33 percent ahead of a year ago. Lottery officials say sales were up for the Kentucky Lottery’s daily games, Pick 3 and Pick 4. Those sales were up a combined $3.2 million from a year ago. Information from: The Courier-Journal, http://www.courier-journal.com Published in The Messenger 11.13.12 | | | |
