I want to start this edition of the Chamber Corner with a big thank you to all of the business, community and education leaders from Obion County who attended the annual banquet for the Obion County Joint Economic Development Corporation.
Thursday, Oct. 25, was a great evening for our community and Art Sparks got the night started by mentioning many of the exciting activities that are going on around us from the industrial development side.
Art mentioned that Cates Landing is moving along nicely with the announcement of the recently awarded Foreign Trade Zone status and obviously the progress that continues at Discovery Park will be a big asset to our community.
I was able to let the business leaders know that the monthly Business Matters meetings at the library have been a huge success from the chamber side as well as the Business After Hours meetings that bring many of us together.
Mike Cox from Cox Oil Company did an outstanding job presenting our nominees and winners for Business of the Year and Educator of the Year. I want to personally thank all of the nominees who attended the event. Every one of the nominees deserved to win, and we are very fortunate to have so many innovative entrepreneurs and talented educators here in Obion County.
Industry is much needed from an economic standpoint, but small business and education are the lifeblood of our community.
In closing, I would like to challenge anyone who has an interest in our community to stop by the chamber office and meet with Lindsay Frilling or Katie Keathley to discuss any ideas that you think would make our community better.
Our theme this year was based on the idea that we all can work together for the betterment of our county.
In my opinion, that was accomplished, and I am so proud to call Union City and Obion County my home.
