Black Oak, Red Devils both double winners; Twisters split with Halls

The Black Oak girls’ and boys’ teams were winners in middle school basketball play Monday night, sweeping visiting Springhill/Yorkville.
The Lady Eagles won 32-14, while the BO boys also led at every turn in a 45-38 triumph.
In other results reported to The Messenger, South Fulton took two from Lake Road, 23-18 in the girls’ game and 52-8 in the boys’ nightcap. Union City beat Halls 41-23 in the girls’ game, but dropped the boys’ nightcap 50-40

Black Oak 32, S/Y 14 (G)

The BO girls bolted to a 14-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back in notching their victory. It was 20-4 at the half.
Nellina Wooten was the big gun for the Lady Eagles, lighting it up for 24 points. Trisha Schmidt had seven rebounds and Harley Burress four steals for the winners.
In Game 2, Blake Jones filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, five steals and four assists to lead BO.
Brandon Swift finished with 10 points and five boards, while Isaac Darnall scored seven and Chance Basham pulled down five caroms.
A 12-6 third quarter gave the Eagles a double-digit lead heading into the final period.
Black Oak’s next game is Thursday vs. Christian Classical Academy.

The Devilettes handed the Lake Road girls their first loss after three victories, limiting them to just two field goals the entire contest.
SF (4-1) outscored the Lady Generals 7-3 in the third period to erase a slim 9-8 halftime deficit.
Tiffany Potts had seven points, Madison Brown five rebounds and Diamond Smith three steals for South Fulton.
On the Lake Road side, Bryleigh Jennings had 11 points and five steals. Taylor Heathcock had a huge night on the glass with 12 caroms, while Lindsey Craddock had six points, four rebounds and three steals
The nightcap was all Red Devils as they pitched a first-quarter shutout (12-0) and led 29-2 at the half.
Branden Walker had eight points and Zaccius Mays six markers and 11 rebounds for the victors.  Demarco Walker had six boards and Cody Davidson five steals.
Ryan Southerland scored four points and both Mason Davidson and Blake Huggins had three rebounds for LR.
South Fulton hosts Hillcrest on Thursday, while Lake Road plays Lake County at home the same night.
Union City 41, Halls 23 (G)
Halls 50, Union City 40 (B)
After a slow start, the Lady Tornadoes outscored Halls 13-6 in the second quarter, then put the home team away with a 13-5 surge in the fourth period.
UC (2-1) put two players in double figures — Alivia Bishop hitting for 11 points and Chante DeBerry 10. Chynia Hyde had 16 rebounds and Bishop came up with eight steals.
Union City was outscored 28-18 in the second half of the boys’ game after being tied at 22-all at the intermission.
Quentrail Polk had 15 points, Willaevion Burton 13 and Jeremy Bumpus eight for the Tornadoes, who are now 2-1 on the season.
UC hosts Northview on Thursday.
