In honor of the nation’s veterans, the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawk Veterans Association will host guest speaker Lt. Gen. John Castellaw (retired) as part of a Veterans Day program Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Watkins Auditorium of Boling University Center.
Castellaw is president of the Crockett Policy Institute (CPI), a non-partisan policy and research organization chartered in Tennessee.
He graduated from UT Martin with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1972 — serving for 36 years, leading Marines around the world and flying more than two dozen different aircraft.
Castellaw was with the United Nations during the Siege of Sarajevo, commanded a U.S. joint force in the multi-national security and stability operation in East Timor and was the chief of staff for the U.S. Central Command at the height of the war in Iraq. His last assignments on active duty were in the Pentagon, where he oversaw Marine Aviation and then the Marine Corps budget creation and execution.
In 2008, he returned home to Tennessee, where he is affiliated with several national security advocacy groups and is a teaching fellow at UT Martin. He also serves on several boards, works with economic development organizations and advises a number of corporations.
Monday’s event at UT Martin is free and open to the public.
