Forms not from register

Some local residents have been receiving order forms offering a service to obtain copies of their property deeds or other titles, but Obion County Register of Deeds Vicky Long is emphasizing the forms were not sent from her office.
In fact, property deeds are public records and are available upon request at the register’s office at the Obion County Courthouse for a copy fee of just 50 cents per page.
The forms being sent from a Nashville-based business listed as Local Records Office have been received by some local senior citizens. It looks like an official document, bearing the recipient’s property address and property description, and offers the recipient an opportunity to receive a copy of their deed or other record of title from the county recorder for a “service fee” of up to $89.
Mrs. Long said the sender of the forms is not a government office.
“I want people to be aware if they get one of these letters in the mail, it did not come from the register’s office,” Mrs. Long said.
