Retired teachers meet at lake | Obion County-Union City Retired Teachers Association

The October meeting of the Obion County-Union City Retired Teachers Association was held recently at Boyette’s restaurant at Reelfoot Lake.
President Alice Fennel welcomed the teachers and guests. Lake County retired teachers were invited to have a joint meeting with the association.
Special guests were Tennessee Retired Teachers Association president JoAnn Smith, TRTA president-elect Linda McCarty and new members Larry and Becky Parks.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States was recited. The Rev. Bobby Williams gave the devotional. The treasurer’s report was distributed, as were gifts to teachers from retired teacher Debbie Rushing of Jackson.
Mary Dunavant read thank-you notes from shut-ins. She also reported on the Reelfoot Rural Ministries’ food drive.
The meeting was handed over to Ms. Smith, who spoke on how important membership is and how it affects teachers’ COLA and insurance. She encouraged each member to ask someone to join. She also talked on other matters of the state.
Ms. McCarty reinforced Ms. Smith on membership.
The group enjoyed lunch. Cards were signed for shut-ins. Hostesses Ann Cheatham, Barbara Scott and Josephine Keightley handed out door prizes.
Before the meeting was over, Williams asked for a moment of silence for deceased members Patti Moyers and Ann L. Townes.
The Nov. 15 meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Obion County Museum on Edwards Street in Union City, with hostesses Janice Faulk, Jenny Vowell and Maggie Vaughan. The guest speaker will be Sarah Collier of Safeline.
