Weakley County’s unemployment rate for September was 13.1 percent – the third highest in the state, according to data released Oct. 25 by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The county’s had a labor force of 15,790, of which 13,710 were employed.
Of the state’s 95 counties, only Obion at 13.2 percent and Scott at 16.1 percent had higher unemployment rates for September.
Weakley County’s August 2012 rate was 13.3 percent. A year ago, in September 2011, the unemployment rate was 14.1 percent.
Williamson and Lincoln counties had the lowest unemployment rates at 5.2 percent each, followed by Knox County at 5.9 percent, Wilson County at 6.2 percent and Blount County at 6.2 percent.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September decreased to 8.3 percent.
