Alice Fly Nickias, 73, of Jackson died Oct. 29, 2012, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was the sister of Ricky Smith of Union City.
Services were set for today at 3 p.m., at George A. Smith & Sons North Chapel in Jackson. Burial was to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to a cancer research organization or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Nickias was born on Jan. 29, 1939, in Medina, daughter of the late Joe Mac and Laverne (Barker) Fly. She married Johnnie Nickias Nov. 31, 1959. They were married 36 years, until his death in 1995.
Mrs. Nickias was a registered nurse and worked in surgery at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for many years. The crew at Jackson General was considered to be her second family. She loved to sing, and she sang to everyone. She has two cats that she loved dearly, Tippy and Sassy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Nickias was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Lay; her sister, Joy LeCornu; and her brother, Danny Smith.
She is also survived by two sons and her daughter-in-law, Mac and Judy Nickias of Jackson and John Nickias Jr. of Memphis; her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Tommy Lay of Henderson; her sister-in-law, Rose Smith of Union City; five grandchildren, Shea Nickias, Lauren Lay, Audrey Lay, Seth Lay and Chad Lay; and several nephews.
