Low-speed chase leads to nude man’s arrest
Three different law enforcement agencies were involved in a low-speed chase through Obion and Weakley counties over the weekend, with the naked driver finally captured in Weakley County.
The chase actually began about 9:15 a.m. Sunday in Union City, but James Joseph Bell, 29, of the South Fulton area eluded the Union City Police Department by driving his green Buick Regal out into the county along Old Troy Road. That’s when the Obion County Sheriff’s Department joined in the pursuit, according to Chief Deputy Kent Treece.
The pursuit began with a call about a motorist driving erratically. Bell allegedly refused to stop for deputies and he veered off road into fields and eluded authorities briefly before he was sighted on Harris Road in the South Fulton area.
The pursuit resumed and continued on to Pierce Station Road, as Bell still wouldn’t stop for authorities.
From there, Bell traveled into Weakley County, where he was intercepted and arrested by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
Treece said pursuit speeds ranged from 15 to 20 miles per hour. Bell appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he was stopped and was naked, according to Treece.
Bell is being held in the Weakley County Jail, where he is facing charges. He will also be facing charges in Obion County, according to Treece. Published in The Messenger 10.30.12
