NASHVILLE (AP) — The Goo Goo Cluster is still going strong at 100.
The milk chocolate, caramel, peanut and marshmallow nougat treat, possibly the first combination candy bar, was created in October 1912 in Nashville by Howell Campbell.
His daughter, 89-year-old Elise Campbell Whalley, told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/QRASWv) she has never tired of the taste and still enjoys the candy.
Owned today by Standard Functional Foods Group, the Goo Goo brand has expanded with the Goo Goo Cluster Supreme and the Goo Goo Cluster Peanut Butter. A modernized production technique means the Nashville plant can churn out 20,000 Goo Goos an hour.
