Students in grades 3-12 interested in improving their writing skills are encouraged to register for one of the Young Writers’ Clubhouse events offered by UT Martin’s West Tennessee Writing Project.
The clubhouses will meet from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on Nov. 3. Students have a choice of four locations:
• Gooch Hall, UT Martin main campus
• UT Martin Jackson Center, 3031 Hwy 45 Bypass, Jackson
• UT Martin Parsons Center, 975 Tennessee Avenue North, Parsons
• Great Oaks Church of Christ, 3355 Brunswick Road, Memphis
Participants will focus on the theme “Election Day is Near: Let Your Voice be Heard” and learn to express their views through realistic persuasive writing, using art and digital media. Students will also learn to apply various campaign techniques, such as bandwagon, charged words and catchy slogans.
Registration is $30 per student. All students will receive a writing notebook and pen as part of the registration fee, but should bring their own lunches. Participants will be divided into categories by current grade.
To register, contact the UT Martin Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies at 881-7080 or register online at www.utm.edu/departments/ecce/nondegree/children.php.
