Gleason Mayor Jack Dunning and the city’s aldermen met Thursday night to discuss city business, which included reports by officer David King of the Gleason Police Department and Jerry Connell of the Gleason Fire Department.
King said the Gleason Police Department issued 34 city citations and Connell of the fire department reported one minor fire on Phelps Street during the last month.
Further, King said Gleason had been awarded a $12,000 state grant for DUI enforcement. Also, it was noted a meeting of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) will be held at Gleason High School Oct. 25.
Dunning said the city received two estimates for repairs for one of Gleason’s water tanks, which has ongoing leak problems. The bids were $10,500 from Mid-South Tanks and $26,974 from Caldwell Tank Co. The board was unable to make a decision because it had not been determined yet whether or not the city’s insurance would cover the cost.
A motion to do street repairs on North Street and Cedar Street was passed without objection.
In addition to the mayor, the meeting was attended by vice mayor Diana Poole, recorder Angela Hunt and aldermen Mike Morris, Jerry Connell and Jerry Dunn Jr.
No date for the next city meeting was announced but Dunning said it wouldn’t take place until after the Nov. 6 general election. Published in The WCP 10.16.12
