The membership of the Tennessee Affordable Housing Coalition has elected a three-person leadership team for the West Region, which includes Ken Thorne of Weakley County.
Thorne, director of economic and community development for the Martin-based Northwest Tennessee Development District, will serve as chairman.
Micheal Clark, director of family services for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, was elected vice chairman. Serving as secretary will be Chris Sheffield, executive director of communications for Shelby County Trustee David C. Lenoir.
The three will serve one-year terms.
The Tennessee Affordable Housing Coalition hopes to build on its recent momentum in the West Region with its first leadership team tapped from the group’s members, according to Kathy Moore Cowan, senior community development specialist for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis – Memphis Branch and a member of the Board of Directors for the Coalition.
The West Region leadership teams mirrors the governance for Tennessee’s Middle and East regions, Ms. Cowan said.
The Tennessee Affordable Housing Coalition is made up of individuals from the government, private and non-profit sectors who want to improve the availability and quality of affordable housing in the state. October marks the west region’s one-year anniversary which it celebrated at the 2012 Governor’s Housing Summit in Nashville Oct. 9-10.
“We have a tremendous amount of need in our region for affordable housing,” Thorne said. “Instead of that being a negative, I see it as simply a great opportunity for the coalition to have a positive impact. I’m anxious for us to get started in earnest on this collaborative effort.”
