UCMS to host Martin
in WTAC playoffs

Union City Middle School’s unbeaten football team will host Martin in a TMSAA playoff game Tuesday night at 6:30.
The Golden Tornadoes (7-0) hope to duplicate a 28-20 regular season victory over the Panthers (4-3) to advance to play the winner of the Northview/Paris Inman contest on Oct. 23. The sectional championship will then be decided the following week between an area representative and likely a team from Memphis.
Tickets will be available at the gate for Tuesday’s game.

Hillcrest tops R’mont
for softball crown

Hillcrest defeated Ridgemont twice to win the Obion County Middle School Softball Tournament, held Satur-day at the Obion County Central High School field.
The top seed coming in, Hillcrest dropped a 10-4 decision to Ridgemont in the winners’ bracket finals but then knocked off South Fulton 6-0 in the finals of the losers’ bracket and completed its comeback with wins of 4-3 and 7-4 over the Lady Mustangs.
Union City opened the tournament, delayed an hour due to wet field conditions, with a 10-2 win over Lake Road in the play-in game, and then Ridgemont scored in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 1-0 win over South Fulton and Hillcrest took a 2-0 verdict over UC in the winners’ bracket semifinals.
SF ended the season for both Lake Road and Union City with wins of 11-1 and 6-1, respectively.

McCullough aces
Wynridge No. 7

James E. McCullough recorded a hole-in-one Saturday at Wynridge Greens in Troy.
McCullough’s ace came on hole No. 7, using a pitching wedge. The shot covered 108 yards.
Witnessing the feat was Dan Wiley, Don Dill, Jerry Grady and Pip Little.

Devils plan pep rally
for Union City game

South Fulton High School will host a community-wide pep rally and bonfire Thursday night in preparationfor its football game at Union City on Friday.
The pep rally/bonfire will begin at 7 p.m. at SFHS.
Friday’s football game at War Memorial Stadium will start at 7:30 p.m.
