Three young men were charged with various offenses after police responded to a complaint Saturday night on the Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Union City.
Police responded about 10:20 p.m. to a complaint of a couple of teenagers with guns and “acting crazy” on the store parking lot at 1601 West Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Officers arrived to find several people and several vehicles in the southwest area of the parking lot, among them a white man who was reported to be walking toward his vehicle and was checked out further by police.
According to the report, an officer opened the driver’s door and a loaded 9mm handgun dropped down beside the seat. The officer yelled to other officers to advise them of the gun and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle.
The driver — identified as 18-year-old Jacob Edward Crowell of 5692 Highway 5, Union City, in Woodland Mills — complied and allegedly told police he had another gun on him. Police also allegedly retrieved a fully-loaded .380 handgun from his back pocket.
Police reported Crowell also had a machete type knife, a pair of metal knuckles with metal spikes and a fixed blade, and a pair of metal knuckles with a spring-assisted folding knife blade.
Crowell was arrested for two counts of unlawful carrying/possession of a weapon, according to the report.
Also arrested was Christopher Lee Armstrong, 21, of 720 North Fifth St., Union City, on charges of possession of marijuana, public intoxication and contributing to the deliquency of a child.
Police reported Armstrong was a passenger in a vehicle and had a beer between his feet in an alleged attempt to hide it. Officers said when he exited the car, he almost fell and appeared “highly intoxicated.”
He also allegedly had a small amount of a substance believed to be marijuana in a small bag in his watch pocket, according to the report. The contributing charge stemmed from his being accused of providing beer to a minor.
A third person, 20-year-old Seth Lee Morgan of 4885 Old River Road, Union City, was issued a citation for possession/consumption of an alcoholic beverage and unlawful possession of a weapon. He allegedly had an open container of beer and was in possession of a knife with knuckles and spikes, according to the report.
