Martin could not do much against Paris Inman on Tuesday night. The Panthers now get another shot at Union City next week.
Martin dropped a 22-0 decision to Inman in its final regular season game and, as a result of the loss, will travel to Union City to take on the West Tennessee Athletic Conference regular season champion in the opening round of the leaguue’s postseason playoffs next Tuesday.
Martin has dropped its last two games and is now 4-3 on the season.
Union City is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
One of those wins was a 28-20 come-from-behind victory over the Panthers at Martin on Aug. 28, UC converting three Martin fumbles into touchdowns in the second half after trailing 20-6 at intermission.
Game time at War Memorial Stadium will be 6:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs will host Northview on that same date and time in the other playoff game at Barton Field in Paris.
The winners of those two games will meet the following week for the right to advance to the West Tennessee sectional championship game.
In Tuesday’s setback, the Panthers had few serious scoring threats.
An incomplete pass in the end zone on fourth down stopped a drive in the second quarter, and then a fumble ended a second-half threat.
Martin totaled 99 yards — 65 rushing and 34 passing — on 37 offensive plays.
Paris Inman, meanwhile, scored all its points in the first half and then saw fumbles ruin more chances for points after the halftime break. Published in The WCP 10.11.12
